Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has expressed a keen interest in acquiring the BMF (Baddest Motherf***er) title. However, he firmly believes that this unique championship should rightfully be contested in the welterweight division at 170 pounds.
McGregor, a native of Dublin, voiced his displeasure regarding the significant weight cuts undertaken by Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway for their BMF title main event at UFC 326 this coming weekend.
During an appearance on Smash Cast, “The Notorious” challenged the rationale behind holding a BMF title bout at a lighter weight class. He stated, “Why would we subject ourselves to a draining cut to 155 pounds, only to then call it the BMF title? Nate Diaz, who originated this belt, did so at 170 pounds. As the belt’s founder, it logically follows that it should be fought for at 170 pounds, and I’m prepared for that challenge.”
Conor McGregor’s Take on UFC 326: Holloway vs. Oliveira 2
Offering his insights on the UFC 326 main event, McGregor predicted a repeat victory for Max Holloway over the Brazilian submission specialist, Charles Oliveira. He described the BMF title fight as a “good fight with a similar outcome.”
He elaborated, “Holloway vs. Oliveira is an excellent matchup, and I’m eagerly anticipating it. Rematches always excite me; they require immense courage and honor, which I deeply respect. In their previous encounter, it appeared Holloway incapacitated Charles early, leading to a stoppage. While it was unclear if it was a genuine or induced injury, I foresee another strong contest with a comparable result. I believe Max’s agility and striking ability will allow him to hit Charles effectively and dismantle him once more. However, it’s a different Charles this time, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
McGregor further reiterated his stance on the BMF title’s appropriateness at 155 pounds, stating, “I don’t think the BMF title is fitting for this weight class, especially with both fighters struggling in the sauna to make the limit. There’s nothing ‘BMF’ about that.” He then expressed unwavering confidence in his own abilities, adding, “If I were to face either opponent next, I feel supremely confident. I would halt both men in their tracks. I’m a formidable individual with a good heart, so I might just claim the BMF belt for my collection. Best of luck with the event.”
Max Holloway Open to Rematch with Conor McGregor
The idea of a rematch between Max Holloway and Conor McGregor, who first clashed in 2013 with McGregor securing a decision victory, has resurfaced with interest from both sides, nearly 13 years later.
McGregor, whose last bout was in 2021, plans a return to the octagon this year. He has frequently mentioned potential fight dates like June 14 or during International Fight Week in July, and has also indicated a desire to face Holloway.
Holloway, known as “Blessed,” shares this enthusiasm. Should he successfully defend his BMF championship at UFC 326 this weekend, he expressed a strong willingness to face the Irishman next. Speaking to Sportsnet, Holloway stated, “Absolutely, man. You don’t decline a fight with Conor. It would be an entertaining contest. He got the win over me, and if I ever have the chance to avenge a loss against anyone… that would be enjoyable. He seems incredibly motivated recently, and it promises to be a great fight. Never say never.”
