Chael Sonnen, a prominent former UFC fighter and now a respected commentator, has voiced significant reservations regarding the likelihood of former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev making a comeback to the 70 kg division.
“Islam`s return to lightweight seems highly improbable to me. In fact, I`d be genuinely surprised if Islam manages to find success in the welterweight category,” Sonnen declared on his personal YouTube channel. He further elaborated on his reasoning, stating, “The most formidable challenge Islam has ever encountered in his professional career, the single most unpleasant experience for him, has consistently been the rigorous requirement to make the 70 kg (155 lbs) weight limit.”
