Carlos Prates is confident that if he defeats Jack Della Maddalena this weekend at UFC Perth, his next outing will be for a title shot.
Currently on a two-fight winning streak with consecutive knockout victories, Prates aims to finish another former champion this weekend and then face the UFC welterweight kingpin.
Islam Makhachev is anticipated to make the first defense of his 170-pound championship in August, with sources indicating his opponent will be Ian Machado Garry.
Should Prates secure a victory in his upcoming fight, he is eager to challenge the winner of the Makhachev vs. Garry bout. Prates expressed his support for Garry, noting their past encounter. Last year, Garry defeated Prates on short notice, handing him his first loss in the UFC.
Prates desires a rematch with Garry, and both fighters have reportedly agreed to have the bout take place in Brazil.

During UFC Perth Media Day, Prates stated:
“I believe Islam and Ian will fight in August, and I’ll face the winner. Islam is the GOAT right now. He’s a two-division UFC champion with exceptional wrestling, making him a difficult opponent.”
In a subsequent interview with MMA Junkie, Prates reiterated his claim:
“I will be next after August. Islam will fight Ian at UFC 330, and after that, I will fight the winner.”
