One of the most famous couples in sports seems to be ending their relationship.
Sources in Germany indicate that football World Cup champion Bastian Schweinsteiger and former top-ranked tennis player Ana Ivanovic have broken up after being married for nine years.
According to the German magazine Bunte, former Manchester United player Schweinsteiger, 40, and his wife Ivanovic, 37, ended their relationship two months prior.
The couple, who are parents to three sons, are said to be living apart since the separation.
Schweinsteiger is reportedly traveling for work but is often based in Munich, where he played for Bayern Munich for most of his career.
Meanwhile, Ivanovic is residing nearly 1,000 MILES away in her hometown of Belgrade, Serbia, with their children Luka, Leon, and Theo.
It is believed that Ivanovic, the 2008 French Open champion, is living in an apartment close to her parents and brother.
Reports from Bild suggest that their relationship became strained due to spending too much time apart.
The famous sports couple first met in 2014, and Schweinsteiger proposed in London shortly after their initial meeting.
They married in Venice in July 2016, just five months before Ivanovic retired from professional tennis.
Ivanovic had a successful tennis career, winning 15 titles and earning over £11.6MILLION in prize money.
Her achievements include reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2007, the Australian Open final in 2008, and winning the French Open in 2008 against Dinara Safina.
Schweinsteiger played professional football for 18 years, most of which was with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
The defensive midfielder played 500 games for Bayern, ranking 11th in their all-time appearances.
He won eight league titles, seven German Cups, and one Champions League title with Bayern.
In 2015, he moved from Bayern to Manchester United.
During his two seasons with Manchester United, he played 35 games and helped the team win the League Cup, FA Cup, and Europa League.
He left the Premier League for MLS side Chicago Fire in 2017 and retired in 2019 after three seasons in the US.
Internationally, Schweinsteiger played 121 times for Germany and was a member of the 2014 World Cup-winning team.
