UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall recently shared his perspective on the prolonged negotiations for a potential unification bout against the undisputed champion, Jon Jones. Aspinall believes the primary reason for the holdup is financial and that the delays are originating from Jones`s side.
“Personally, I can`t influence or speed up this process,” Aspinall stated. “I believe the core issue is money, and any stalling comes down to Jon Jones. I am prepared to fight him wherever and whenever he wants. Ultimately, I think it`s all about the financial aspect.”
Aspinall further suggested that Jones`s demands might stem from a recognition of the challenge he poses. “Statistically speaking, I`m the most dangerous fighter in the UFC,” Aspinall asserted. “Facing a competitor my size with established career accomplishments – I think Jones is intelligent enough to grasp this. That`s likely why he is seeking significant financial compensation.”
