Aryna Sabalenka Becomes Race Leader After Miami Open Win

Sports News

Aryna Sabalenka has become the top player in the PIF Race to the WTA Finals Leaderboard. This happened after she won the WTA 1000 Miami Open presented by Itaú.

The 26-year-old tennis star has now reached four finals this season. Earlier, she won the WTA 500 Brisbane International presented by Evie and was a runner-up at the Australian Open and the WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Sabalenka`s victory in Miami, where she won without losing a set, gave her 1,000 points. This pushed her ahead of Madison Keys to become No. 1 in the Race to the WTA Finals Riyadh presented by PIF.

Jessica Pegula, who Sabalenka beat in the Miami final, also improved her position on the Leaderboard, moving up three places to No. 5.

In doubles, Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend are still leading. They strengthened their lead by reaching the semifinals in Miami. Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, their closest competitors, moved up to No. 2 after winning the Miami doubles title. This was the first WTA 1000 doubles title for both Andreeva and Shnaider.

The WTA Finals Riyadh presented by PIF will feature the top 8 singles players and doubles teams from the PIF Race to the WTA Finals Leaderboard. The eighth spot in singles and doubles goes to a Grand Slam winner ranked between No. 8 and No. 20, if applicable. The tournament uses a round-robin format to determine the WTA Finals Billie Jean King Trophy winner for singles and the WTA Finals Martina Navratilova Trophy winner for doubles.
