Arsenal Poised for £60m Viktor Gyokeres Transfer

Football News

Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of making Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres one of their top earners. The club could secure his signing for approximately £60 million.

The prolific Swedish forward is a target for several leading European clubs, with Arsenal among the keenest suitors.

Since his £16.8 million move from Coventry City in the summer of 2023, the 26-year-old Gyokeres has impressively scored 95 goals in 100 appearances for Sporting.

Sources indicate that Sporting may have already reached an agreement with Arsenal regarding the transfer fee for the highly-rated striker.

New sporting director Andrea Berta is said to have prioritized Gyokeres as Arsenal seeks to strengthen its attacking options.

According to reports from The Mirror, the two clubs have a price agreement in place. The proposed £60 million fee is lower than the £85 million release clause included in Gyokeres` contract.

However, the transfer price might rise if other clubs, such as Manchester United, decide to enter a bidding war for the player.

The 26-year-old is expected to command a substantial salary at Arsenal, with his potential contract valued at over £7 million annually.

This level of wage, potentially exceeding £200,000 per week, would position him among the highest-paid players at the Emirates Stadium.

While Arsenal also holds interest in RB Leipzig`s 22-year-old forward Benjamin Sesko, reports suggest that the club has “reservations” about that potential deal, identifying Gyokeres as their primary target.

Gyokeres demonstrated formidable form in April, scoring EIGHT goals across just three matches against Moreirense, Rio Ave, and Boavista.

The former Brighton striker was recently questioned about a possible move to London but remained non-committal ahead of Sporting`s final league match, which saw them competing for the title.

When asked after a win against Moreirense if he liked London, Gyokeres responded with a smile, “I like Lisbon!” He added, “No one can predict what will happen, we enjoy the moment.”
