Andreeva Extends Winning Streak with 20th Victory at Miami Open

Sports News

Mirra Andreeva`s incredible season continues as she achieves another win, marking her 20th victory this year.

The 17-year-old tennis prodigy, after receiving a bye in the first round, defeated Veronika Kudermetova with a score of 6-0, 6-2 in her debut match at the Miami Open presented by Itaú on Friday. This Miami Open marks her very first time participating in this tournament.

Here are some key highlights from Andreeva`s recent victory:

Rank 6: Andreeva is currently seeded eleventh in Miami, but her remarkable performance has propelled her to No. 6 in the WTA rankings after winning the Indian Wells title the previous week. She now aims to make history by becoming the first teenager to win both Indian Wells and Miami titles consecutively, known as the Sunshine Double.

20 Wins: Andreeva leads the WTA Tour in main-draw match wins this year. By defeating Kudermetova, a former Top 10 player, she became the first player in 2025 to reach 20 tour-level victories. Her latest win was achieved in just 68 minutes.

13 Straight Wins: Andreeva is currently on a 13-match winning streak, all achieved at WTA 1000 events. She is aiming for her third consecutive WTA 1000 title, following her successes in Dubai in February and Indian Wells the previous week.

Top 3: Since the introduction of the WTA 1000 tier in 2009, only three players have managed to win three WTA 1000 titles in a row. Andreeva is striving to join this elite group of former World No. 1 players: Serena Williams, Iga Swiatek, and Caroline Wozniacki.

Youngest Since 2005: Still not 18, Andreeva is the youngest player since Nicole Vaidisova in 2005 to record a 13-match winning streak across all WTA Tour levels. Vaidisova`s achievement happened 20 years ago, and Andreeva was born in 2007.

Teenage Record: Andreeva is the first teenager to win 13 consecutive WTA 1000 matches. She is also only the third player in the current decade to achieve a 13+ match winning streak at WTA 1000 events, alongside Grand Slam champions Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina.

10 Points in a Row: During the first set, Andreeva won 10 consecutive points, easily securing the set lead with seven winners compared to Kudermetova`s one.

9th Game Streak: At 6-0, 2-0, Kudermetova had her first break points, but Andreeva successfully defended them, extending her game winning streak to nine. Kudermetova then managed to win a game, but Andreeva maintained control and secured the victory.

Next Challenge: In the third round, Andreeva will face Amanda Anisimova, the No. 17 seed and WTA 1000 Doha champion, who is the only other player to win a WTA 1000 title this year. This will be their first encounter.
