Anca Todoni Clinches WTA 125 Title in Antalya

Sports News

Anca Todoni, seeded No. 6, won her third WTA 125 title by defeating Leyre Romero Gormaz 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the Megasaray Hotels Open Antalya 1. The match lasted for 1 hour and 26 minutes.

This is the 20-year-old Romanian`s third WTA 125 trophy in 2024, having previously won in Bari in June and Santa Cruz in October. All her WTA 125 titles have been on clay courts.

Todoni, who recently entered the Top 100 at No. 100, has revitalized her 2025 season with this victory. After a strong start in Australia, including her first WTA 500 main-draw win in Brisbane and qualifying for the Australian Open, she experienced a slump, losing four of five matches in qualifying rounds.

Her Antalya journey started with a tough first round against Panna Udvardy, where she came back from a set down to win. She also rallied in the quarterfinals against No. 3 seed Arantxa Rus. In the final, Todoni`s powerful serve and aggressive baseline game were key to her victory. She landed 67% of her first serves and won 71% of those points.

Leyre Romero Gormaz, ranked No. 157, had a great run to her first WTA 125 final. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated No. 8 seed Wei Sijia in the first round and overcame promising young players Ella Seidel and Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva before defeating Maja Chwalinska in the semifinals.

Clara Burel, former No. 42, returned to competition in Antalya after three months. The French player defeated No. 7 seed Nuria Parrizas Diaz in the first round and reached the semifinals, where she had to retire against Todoni due to a back injury.

The top two seeds, Emiliana Arango and Diane Parry, were both defeated in the first round. No. 1 seed Emiliana Arango lost to Chloe Paquet, and Veronika Erjavec defeated No. 2 seed Diane Parry.

Despite losing in the singles semifinal, Maja Chwalinska won the doubles title with Anastasia Detiuc. They defeated Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch in the final. This is their second title together and their first at WTA 125 level. For Chwalinska, it`s her third WTA 125 doubles title, and for Detiuc, it`s her second.
