Sports News

Ekaterina Alexandrova extended her strong 2025 season by defeating No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 6-2 in just 65 minutes at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, securing her place in the quarterfinals.

The victory marks Alexandrova`s fourth win against a Top 10 player this season and her 18th overall. Her personal best for Top 10 wins in a single season is five, achieved in 2021. Alexandrova, currently ranked No. 22 in the world, won her fifth WTA Tour title in Linz in February and has since reached semifinals in Doha and Charleston.

In their first encounter, Andreeva, the 17-year-old champion from Dubai and Indian Wells, started strong by breaking serve in the first game. However, Alexandrova quickly recovered, breaking back immediately and taking control of the match with her powerful serve and aggressive play.

Alexandrova hit 19 winners, including eight aces, compared to Andreeva`s 11. Andreeva struggled with her first serve, landing only 48% and accumulating 24 unforced errors.

Alexandrova commented after the match that she had prepared for a tough contest, and despite the scoreline, some parts were indeed challenging. In the quarterfinals, she will face either No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula or Magdalena Frech.
