Alex Mumbrú is set to take the helm as the new coach of Virtus Bologna. He currently holds the position of coach for the German national team, having led them to victory in the recent EuroBasket, despite having to step back temporarily due to illness during the competition. Mumbrú will continue to serve in this national team capacity concurrently with his new club role. This arrangement has been approved by the German Basketball Federation (DBB) following extensive discussions between all involved parties.
“I am very grateful to the DBB for giving me the opportunity to coach a Euroleague team,” Mumbrú stated. “It is a privilege that I do not take for granted and it is a testament to our excellent relationship. Of course, I will continue to be fully invested in my role as national team manager, and I am now focusing on the next two World Cup 2027 qualification windows in Qatar.”
