Adam Silver Calls for NBA Europe and Euroleague Collaboration

Sports News

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has expressed a strong desire for enhanced collaboration between NBA Europe and the Euroleague. He highlighted the significant potential for European basketball’s growth through such a partnership, especially with Chus Bueno, the Euroleague’s new leader and a former NBA colleague, at the helm.

“Chus (Bueno, the new head of the Euroleague) was my colleague at the NBA for many years. I believe that for the good of European basketball, the best solution would be to collaborate with the Euroleague. We have developed a systematic approach to grow the sport across Europe. This involves complementing national leagues, working collaboratively with the Euroleague and FIBA.”

Silver also mentioned that Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum provided an update on the NBA Europe project during a recent Board of Governors meeting. While specific details were not disclosed, Silver noted the project had generated “enormous enthusiasm.”

The appointment of Spain’s Chus Bueno to lead the Euroleague, succeeding Paulius Motiejunas, appears to have made a historic agreement with the NBA, once considered an unlikely prospect, much more plausible. This potential collaboration is seen as a pivotal step for the greater good of European basketball.
